What's your skin type?
Ever stopped to examine your skin closely? Most of us don't have the time or the inclination and we only pay attention when there's a problem. But to prevent problems and to remedy them, it's important to identify your skin type or types, and to understand what part the environment plays in its health.
• Sun-damaged and discoloured skin
Too much sun exposure takes its toll, but other factors can also be responsible for discolouring the skin. Scarring, hormone treatments and environmental damage can also leave the skin with an uneven tone and patchy pigmentation. Fair skin is the most susceptible to these factors.
• Ageing skin
As the skin matures it begins to wrinkle and line and loses its plumpness and elasticity.
• Dry skin
Fine lines and skin which looks flat and lacklustre are signs of dehydration.
• Sensitive skin
Sensitive skin is often dyhydrated which makes it prone to irritiation.
• Oily skin
An over-production of oil – particularly in the T-zone – means this type of skin is characterised by blackheads and pimples.
• Normal skin
Those lucky enough to have this type are blessed with hydrated, soft and luminous skin.
